September. I baked a lot. This was pumpkin zucchini bread. It's a keeper.
Still walking for my back. And it does my heart good to see the beauty in the sky.
Chocolate zucchini cake I turned into muffins so they are more transportable.
A zucchini casserole I was showing off to my mom, but no one else ate. It's a Mel's recipe. Very tasty.
More of the sky. We've had some pretty nice rainbows.
Rebekah playing a very old French horn.
Rebekah playing with the marching band during 8th grade night. And yes, she's only a 7th grader but she pleaded to join the 8th graders.
Rebekah chatting with a friend while waiting for her audition for Shrek the Musical.
The Bee still snuggles the dad.
Horrible story and we shall never speak of it, but apparently one can break a tooth while wearing a night sleep guard. I suppose my back teeth were safe but we forgot about the front one. Ah well, I found an emergency dentist and they filled it. I had saved the part of the tooth that broke off which they promptly threw away. Then I have my dentist look at it and he asked if I had the part of the tooth. So, lesson: don't fully trust emergency dentists.
Rising moon.
Rebekah's school picture.
More sky pictures.
When you buy "short" pants and they are still too long....
Couldn't find my water bottle. Got another one. Eventually went out to pick up Rebekah from school and...
so I got out of the car and had to take this for posterity.
And speaking of for posterity, Rebekah was asked to sing in sacrament meeting. She chose and oldie but a goodie. And it was beautiful.
I marked this one "to read" then unmarked it, but then a friend rated it high so I tried again. Unfortunately. Just read the title to grasp the plot and it's issues. So not my favorite. Maybe one of my least favorites.
Rebekah and I continue. Pretty fun.
My Brandon Sanderson literature continues to rise. This was a pretty good shorter story (most of his books are quite large). This is also one of the ones he suggests reading as a starting off point to get into all the lore. It's quite a good plot line. Very recommendable.
Rebekah was asking about these so I decided to read them all one more time. I think they're a bit too dark for a 12 year old. And although I really like the story, liked the movies, and LOVE the music, I find Katniss quite whiny and slightly annoying in the book. It could be her age. She's older and less whiny in the movie. Not sure she's suppose to be older in the movie, but there you go.
It's been a while so I decided to jump in again. Who doesn't love Charles Dickens. Very well done with amazing insights into the people, time period, and great plot twists.
So I actually read this one months ago and never added it. Have to admit, this mistake had me second guessing every little thing I do. But here it is. This is a well written history of the Charles Daniel and the first American olympic swimmer medalist. Throughout the whole book the author wrote about a new swim stroke known as the Charlie Crawl. Turns out that turned into free style. Also, early swimming pools were very gross. But the book is highly recommendable.
Less about dolphins and more about how humanity is destroying the oceans. I wanted more about dolphins.
See The Hunger Games.
Rather fun murder mystery / chick lit. Fun for somewhat dark yet light reading.
What is life like on the banks of the Atlantic Ocean? Well, read this one.
Turns out I'm reading these to clear my proverbial palate. Highly enjoyable.
Quite long over drawn book about the Australian frontier. It's okay if that's what you're looking for. Felt sorry for the girl main character. Not fun / enjoyable, but it's a story.
I was really excited about the plot of this one: it follows a single house in the frontier. However, it turns out bad things happen in houses. Really bad things. Murder, seances, foul relationships. I may never buy a lived in house again.
More Harry. Woo-Hoo. Poor Dumbledore.
Okay chick lit. However, it starts with an affair that their partners were having with each other and then they have an affair. Because it's okay now? And honestly I didn't really like the way it ended although most would see it happy.
So many are getting back yard chickens. So I read this. I learned everything I wanted to know and a lot of things I didn't want to know about chickens. Back yard or other.
See The Hunger Games.
History of very early England. England before William the Conquerer. Lots of war. Lots of disloyalty and so forth. Lots of names that were unfamiliar and so I struggled keeping everything straight. May have to visit this again at some point.
I aged up this month. And yes, I felt sufficiently celebrated. My aunt sent me this really nice kettle. I used hers consistently when I stayed with her during my Kodaly years. Very excited to have this one.
My friend from Church made all the primary kids cupcakes for President Nelson's birthday, then made me a mini cake since my birthday was so close to his.
Speaking of President Nelson, another of my friends saw this and sent it to me. Rather humorous. Makes we want to address the lego company though. See if they can up the age.
Don got me a slice of carrot cake from the local store.
I got several cards from loved ones, as well as a few books from an awesome friend.
My mother in law gave me some money that I plan to turn into church shoes, and my mother gave me money with instructions to turn it into fancy Costco containers.
We decided to leave the state for my birthday, but considering my inability to sit, we had to do something somewhat close. Dayton, at just under 2 hours away was a good bet and Rebekah was excited to see the National Air Force Museum again, so I booked the hotel and when the time came I forced the "look how happy we are to be spending the weekend together" picture.
We made it to the hotel with minimal discomfort. However, I was sent to the room while Don and the Bee went back for the bags. I looked out our window and watched their progress.
After checking into our room we found a spot on the floor between the bed that was wet. Don called the help desk and they sent someone up to look at it. After he assured us it was alcohol, he upgraded us to a double queen suite. Don was very happy with the upgrade.
Eventually the two went swimming. It's incredible how she's grown.
The next day we drove out to the museum. I'll admit my computer dumped all the pictures in the blog in no order, and after doing my best to sort out which came first I realized I have no idea. So feel free to comment about how the timeline of the planes are off. If you tell me exactly how I'll fix them. Until then, I give you the highlights, in no general order.
Loved this sign and yet it's somewhat horrific too. We played a video game where we had to recognize friend from foe by the plane. I failed miserably. I can only imagine.
Love homing pigeons, but again somewhat sad and scary.
Loved this little guy too.
Thought he was such a cute little guy until I read about his purpose:
Somewhere during WWII I got separated from Don and the Bee while I checked out Glenn Miller items. I finally found them again and explained about Glenn Miller. Rebekah said, "Who's Glenn Miller?" and the men across from us gave a total shocked reaction and started to chuckle about the younger generation. I apologized for my lack of mothering skills and proceeded to sing a rendition of In the Mood. Apparently it brought a slight crowd where I was then complemented on my rendition.
The artwork on the plane is incredible. There were many stories about what the artwork meant to the people who flew the planes. Much more than just art.
Apparently this little guy was flown in and parachuted out - with the driver.
History of the song:
This astounded me. I could believe it! I spent a long time looking at this trying to figure out how one could actually get in there. I'm short and I didn't think I could fit.
One of these balls in the plane. Incredible.
Then we shifted gears and went to the presidential area. Rebekah wanted to explore the presidential planes first.
FDR:
His wheel chair.
Truman:
Kennedy:
Had to explain what this was. Technology has come so far.
If there was a game, Don and Rebekah would play. This was one about taking off, flying with winds and everything else, fuel conservation, and landing. I was still reeling from the friend or foe one, so I just watched.
Don and the Bee started slowing down.
We ate a quick - totally overpriced lunch and got back to business. Rebekah has been fascinated with WWII history so we searched out the Berlin Wall replica.
Liked the little mustache on this one.
Rebekah was somewhat tired at this point....
This was a communication hub in Vietnam.
Again, somewhat terrifying.
Dropping goods.
Rebekah got her second wind:
Oh, and the space area was fun too.
See, I was there.
Love this one of the Bee.
Space food:
Apollo 15
And experimental stuff. Crazy how this never took off.
More games.
More resting.
Eventually we finished up on the inside and I went outside to see the huge planes while Don and the Bee got the car. On the way I saw this:
The big ones:
At this point my back was screaming at me. I found a bench and laid down. I also check out my stats:
And the blue blue sky.
Eventually Don and the Bee checked out the big planes.
Then we were off, heading back to Indy, eventually stopping at a Cracker Barrel for dinner where I saw this little guy. Totally overpriced but I do love me an owl.
