Grandma Stirland

Grandma Stirland sent Rebekah a letter!

Inside were some stickers and a paper with a lot of little drawings.

Rebekah was the one that showed me the stickers matched up with the drawings.

She loved her sticker art.

Thanks Grandma Stirland!

Gardening Update

We recently went to Frank's to tend the garden.

Rebekah helped out.

Here's Frank working the machinery

Digging for weeds

Hard at work

She worked so hard we needed to take a break and have a snack

While mom and Frank worked some more

Then we replanted some corn where the corn hadn't come up yet

Then we drove the cart.
I let her take the wheel.  She had so much fun!

And since I updated the garden at Frank's, here's the plants at our house

First Strawberry

The Tomatoes and Peas
(and a cucumber that got a late start)

Don Made Me Dinner

When I was dating Don I casually mentioned to Don's daughter Kayla that Don poured me a bowl of cereal for breakfast.  Kayla replied, "Wow, he must really like you."
Well, look what my man did for me!  He must really really really like me.

And, yes those are vegetables on my plate.  He must really REALLY like me.

Bacon

I didn't like bacon before I was pregnant with Rebekah.
While pregnant I craved bacon a lot.
A very lot.
I still like bacon.
And so does my little girl.

Mmmm....

Bacon....

Father's Day

I asked my dearest Don what he wanted for Father's Day dinner.  His answer:  wings, nachos, and baked potatoes.  Oh, and cookies.  So, I made sure we had everything he asked for and when we got home from church I stared the cooking while Don watched the race (another father's day request).  Mom Walker and Frank joined us for the celebratory meal.

I also got two cards, one featuring a big spider mentioning Don as my knight in shinning armor....

The other from Rebekah mocking the fact that Don is in a house full of women.

To top it off he received a phone call from Paul and skyped with Kayla and Josh.  All in all a good day.

I love my handsome husband very much and for many reasons.  One of which is his gentle nature as a father.  There were many moments in our dating relationship that led me to believe that Don was (and is) the one for me.  One happened right here in Indiana.  Paul came downstairs rather fast and turned the light on in the kitchen at the same time he knocking over a glass.  It shattered on the floor.  Don simply got up and put his arm around Paul, said a few comforting words about how it happens and it's okay, and then he and Paul helped clean it up.  No yelling, no put downs, just kindness and love.  That is my man.

Rebekah sure loves her dada.  I love to watch them together.  Here are some of my favorite pictures of my man with his little girl.

Walking down to the water

I love how Reka is running after him

Reading "You'll Grow Soon, Alex"
(which ironically is about an issue it looks like Reka won't ever need to come to terms with)

Another day in their favorite place

Reka loves to look

Got to love a good belly tickle

Happy Father's day sweet husband.

Swimming

Grandma bought Rebekah a little swimming pool.  The weather finally cooperated and so we tried it out.

First time in her little swim suit.

Grandma found a bucket for Reka to play with.  She loves watching water.
(Also notice the stickers on my hand.  Yes, we did art before we went swimming.)

Sitting in the water.  It was cold!  But Reka didn't seem to mind.

Then we went in and had a snack, got dressed, read books, played and had dinner.  After dinner I went out to clean up outside and water the plants.  Rebekah wanted to go out too.  Didn't realize she would pick up right where she left off.

Who needs a swim suit?

19

Okay, 19 months.  Wow.

Time is flying by.  What happened this month?  Well, besides what you read in the previous blogs:

Rebekah loves reading.
Usually we sit together and read but sometimes she takes matters into her own hands.

Puddles.  Rebekah has learned all about the joy of puddles
(thanks to that rainy day at the park)

Meet Miss Kitty and Lovey Bear.
Reka rarely goes anywhere without them.

Nor will you see her without a ball in some form....

(Another view of Miss Kitty and another stuffed cat who we have yet to name.)

Rebekah can now open things

She loves to share cookies with that dad

She loves her sunglasses

And mama's sunglasses

She practices for the day that dad will let her drive

Loves the water

This month has been a month of new words and sounds.  She is definitely exploring her ability to communicate.  Mama and dada and lots of animal sounds are now second nature.  She has said granma, but only once or twice.  Yes and no, up and down, and off are just a few other things she says.  She will occasionally say another word like splash or boat but until she says it more than once I don't count it.
Rebekah can now go down stairs all by herself.  Whether she will or not is the question.  But she can do it.
She is understanding so much more and can follow instructions (whether she will or not....)
She is working on her jumping ability.
My little girl no longer needs help at playground (except for swing of course).  It is so fun to watch her do things that once she needed so much help to do.  I love to watch her independence, although it makes my heart ache for my little snuggly baby who is growing so fast.
Reka can do head shoulders knees and toes.  She has it down!  Of course, you need to do it slowly and she has to be in the right frame of mind....
She loves to share and loves to help.  She shares food.  And she's so utterly cute it's very hard to turn her down when she offers you, for example, a half eaten apple slice.  She "helps" me do laundry, sweep the floor, water the plants, etc.  And yes, I'm learning to let go and let her help.
She is hugging back now.  I can feel the strength of her little arms when she hugs me tight. True, pure, tender love.  It fills my soul.

A few more pictures of my little girl

I can't wait for every day with my little girl!
